An eleventh hour deal has been struck to keep the ponies running at the Fort Erie Race Track.

The Niagara Falls Review reports that the Fort Erie Racing Consortium met Monday to talk about the track.

It is still not knows if the there will be enough money for the track to run a full season of competition.

Monday night the Fort Erie council approved  a $500,000 allocation to ensure the Fort Erie Race Track has a racing season this year. The money will be taken from the Town’s reserve fund and used for the track’s lease payment which was due at midnight.

The Review reports that the fiscal year for the consortium ended Monday, prompting tack officials to strike a new deal before the end of the day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
