College students accused of forcing dog to drink beer plead not guilty

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Two SUNY Brockport students accused of forcing a dog to be held upside down and drink beer pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges on Wednesday.

WHAM in Rochester reports Robert Yates, 20, of West Seneca and Shane Oliver, 20, of Bergen appeared in court on charges of torturing/injuring animals, but their attorney says the incident was blown out of proportion, claiming the photo was staged.

The photo was shared on Twitter, leading to criminal charges against the pair.

The dog’s owner was not involved in the incident. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
