BPD employee faces felony animal abuse charges

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A suspended employee with the Buffalo Police Department is facing more trouble. Prosecutors have upgraded charges against 34-year-old Shanon Richardson to felony animal abuse.

A grand jury has now indicted him and Thursday he was in state supreme court for arraignment. Police arrested Richardson in December, when they suspected he was training dogs for fighting.

Authorities seized the dogs, but then one of them went missing from the city animal shelter and is still missing. Richardson denies the animal abuse charges.

He is currently being held at the Erie County Holding Center.
