Deputies keep eye on school bus safety

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – State law enforcement officials will be out in force Thursday to participate in Operation Safe Stop Day.

Law enforcement from all across the state will be following behind school buses in marked and unmarked patrol units looking for drivers who pass stopped school buses.  They will be patrolling selected bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints.

It’s illegal to pass a school bus, from either side when it’s stopped or the lights are flashing. If you violate that law, you could be looking at a $400 fine or even jail time.
