HOLLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – During a one-day enforcement campaign, State Police in Troop A cited four motorists for passing stopped school buses.

The campaign was part of a statewide effort called Operation Safe Stop. Troopers targeted drivers who passed school buses that had flashing red lights activated.

One of the motorists cited in this year’s campaign was a tractor trailer driver, who passed a stopped school bus on Rt. 16 in the Town of Holland. Troopers say he told them he didn’t see the flashing lights because “I wasn’t paying attention; I was playing with the radio.”

State Police remind all drivers that it is illegal to pass a school bus that has flashing red lights. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
