Accused drunk driver allegedly became combative

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York State Police say an alleged drunk driver became combative with them during processing Sunday after a crash on I-190 North, in Buffalo.

Police say 22-year-old Kevin M. Barrett, of Orchard Park, was not injured in the crash. They say they found him behind the wheel of a damaged blue Ford Explorer and could smell alcohol on his breath.

Barrett failed sobriety tests and submitted a blood alcohol content more than two times the legal limit, according to police. He was arrested for aggravated DWI. During processing, the situation got worse.

Troopers say they quickly gained control of Barrett after he became combative and physically resistant. Now he is also charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He faces those charges in Town of Cheektowaga Court.

He faces aggravated DWI charges in City of Buffalo Court. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
