COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Convicted child killer Eric Smith is up for parole this week, marking his sixth appearance before the parole board.

The New York State Department of Corrections website lists Eric Smith for a parole hearing this week to decide whether he will be freed or stay behind bars. He is currently in the Collins Correctional facility, where he is serving a term of nine years to life.

Smith was convicted of killing 4-year-old Derrick Robie in the Steuben County Town of Savona by strangling the child and hitting him with a rock. Smith was only 13-years-old at the time.

Smith is likely to hear his fate on Friday. He was last before the parole board in 2012, and his parole was denied. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
