Arson fire tears through abandoned apartment complex

WESTFIELD N.Y. (WIVB) – A fire investigators say was intentionally set burned an unoccupied building early Wednesday morning in Westfield, in Chautauqua County.

Multiple fire companies responded to the scene, which began around 1:46 a.m. and tore through the abandoned apartment complex located at 41-43 Clinton Street. No injuries were reported.

Chautauqua County fire investigators say the blaze was intentionally set by someone who placed trash against the building, which then ignited the wooden exterior. The fire destroyed about half of the building. The Westfield Fire Chief says he called an excavator to come tear parts of it down.

The complex was recently purchased by Bella Development, by owner Keith Carlins.
