DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) – A cascade of sparks flying out from underneath a vehicle made it easy for deputies to spot an alleged drunk driver.

The sheriff’s office say DeMario Hough of Dunkirk was stopped while driving on Rt. 60 in the town around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday after deputies observed sparks flying out from underneath his vehicle as it dragged its muffler down the street.

Authorities say the 27-year-old was drunk. He was charged with DWI and vehicle infractions and is due back in court at a later date.
