CORFU, N.Y. (WIVB) – Months after being given an ultimatum by the Board of Trustees, The Batavian reports the mayor of Corfu has resigned.
Last August, the board threatened to remove Ralph Peterson from office unless he resign for trying to remove two clerks without cause. But the deadline came and went without Peterson’s resignation.
Days later, it was revealed the Corfu mayor had been hospitalized. He later turned in a doctor’s note putting him on medical leave.
Because of his unknown health issues, the board tabled the issue of his resignation.
The Batavian reports Peterson has now resigned, effective Monday. The resignation comes after eight months of medical leave and the board putting forward a budget proposal reducing the mayor’s salary to $4 per year.
