School board candidates discuss charter schools

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Thursday night, some charter school families got to hear what candidates for the Buffalo School Board want to do for them.

The Charter School for Applied Technologies hosted a forum where many of the 13 declared candidates for next month’s board elections. Charter school parents say what the winners decide will affect their children.

Parent Lizeth Boldon said, “The charter schools do pull kids from public schools. So I want to hear what they have to say and I want to know how that’s going to affect my children. And not only that but I have a lot of friends that go to the public schools, how’s it going to affect them?”

Over 8,000 students attend charter schools in the City of Buffalo.

The Buffalo Board of Education elections take place on May 6.
