Police track down driver who led troopers on high speed chase

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – State Police arrested a Niagara Falls man who they say led troopers on a high speed chase in the city on March 23.

Dayvon Mays was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second degree reckless endangerment and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Troopers say around 1:30 a.m. on March 23, they attempted to pull over the 23-year-old on Niagara Falls Boulevard for driving with a headlight out. But Mays allegedly took off at a high speed through a residential neighborhood and police made the decision to end the chase to prevent injuries.

But investigators tracked Mays’ license plate to a local car dealership, where they discovered the car had been recently sold. But through careful police work, detectives were able to determine Mays had been driving the night of the chase.

He is due back in court towards the end of the month.
