Governor candidate Astorino speaks in Amherst

Rob Astorino, candidate for New York governor, in Amherst.

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Erie County Republicans got a first-hand look at their top declared candidate for governor Saturday.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino spoke at a forum Saturday morning in Amherst.

He says there are ways to make Western New York better, besides spending taxpayers’ money for one-time items.

“That’s not real recovery, that’s quicksand.  You need to build from the private sector, on up, and most people just don’t feel that New York is a place to do business.  We’re dead last – 50th – in business climate,” Astorino, said Saturday.

Just after declaring his candidacy in March, Astorino appeared at Zeptometrix in Buffalo.  This is his first visit to western New York for an event since then. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
