COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Convicted child killer Eric Smith won’t be released from jail. He was is up for parole this week, marking his sixth appearance before the parole board.
Smith was convicted of killing four-year-old Derrick Robie in the Steuben County Town of Savona by strangling the child and hitting him with a rock. The board also said that Smith sexually assaulted the child with an object. Smith was only 13-years-old at the time.
He was last before the parole board in 2012, and his parole was denied.
This time the board said, “Your release would be incompatible with the welfare and safety of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law. Parole is denied.”
Smith will go before the board again in 2016. He is currently in the Collins Correctional facility, where he is serving a term of nine years to life.
