Group brainstorms ideas for Ken-Ton school buildings

KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Taxpayers gathered Monday night to discuss what should happen to three soon-to-be-empty schools in the Ken-Ton District.

The three buildings were discussed by the Kenmore Village Improvement Society. Earlier this month, the school board voted to close Hamilton and Roosevelt Elementary Schools and merge Kenmore Middle School into the high school, potentially reusing the middle school building for administration offices.

One thing many said they don’t want are more residential rental properties.

Improvement society president Melissa Foster said, “”What can we do as we move on and what can we do to help create situations that are going to replace what value in one way or another? We lost value in one part, how can we add it in another part?”

Monday’s meeting was a brain storming sessions. The ideas will now be presented to the village, town and school boards. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
