Erie County Executive to “pardon” butter lamb

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Erie County Executive will begin a new Easter tradition at the Broadway Market when he “pardons” a butter lamb on Wednesday.

Just like U.S. Presidents for the past few decades have issued “pardons” for a turkey prior to Thanksgiving, Mark Poloncarz will spare one lucky butter lamb from going under the knife during Easter dinner this year.

The official ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday inside the Broadway Market, near the butter lamb stand. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
