Erie Co. Executive “pardons” a butter lamb

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Erie County Executive began a new Easter tradition at the Broadway Market when he “pardoned” a butter lamb on Wednesday.

Just like U.S. Presidents for the past few decades have issued “pardons” for a turkey prior to Thanksgiving, Mark Poloncarz spared one lucky butter lamb from going under the knife during Easter dinner this year.

“I, Mark C. Poloncarz, by the powers vested in me, by the state of New York, the Erie County Charter, the Polish American Dairy Council and the Almighty, do hearby pardon and free the butter lamb from its traditional Easter duties on tables throughout Erie County for the duration of Easter Sunday,” he stated.

The Market is open through Saturday for Easter shoppers.
