Niagara County Sheriff’s Office to conduct active shooter drill

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour says the Emergency Response Team will be training with other local first responders at DeSales Catholic School in the Town of Lockport.

They will be conducting an active shooter drill Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. The training will consist of building searches, K-9 searches and responding to an active shooter with medical support. The media has been invited to watch the training.

Last year the Erie County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Unit teamed up with officials in the Springville-Griffith Institute School District for an active shooter drill at the high schools.

Police have told News 4 in the past on average it takes about five to 10 minutes for a gunman to enter a building and carry out their attack.

If you find yourself in that situation police say it is important for people not to stand in shock. Instead, police say you should get out of the area quickly if you can and lock yourself in a room, barricade the door and hide until help arrives.
