Police to conduct training exercises at Williamsville school

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Authorities do not want residents or parents to worry Wednesday if they see unusual police activity around Williamsville South High School.

The Amherst Police Department will conduct training exercises at the school between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

All schools in the district are closed to students and faculty this week for spring recess. The drill does not involve school officials.

Amherst Police say there will be multiple police vehicles, including SWAT, in the rear parking lot of the high school during the five-hour tactical response drill.

The Williamsville Central School District says the training gives officers an opportunity to practice protocols and procedures during a potential crisis or other hostile situation occurring inside a school.
