Man killed when car plunged onto 33 from above

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 47 year-old Buffalo man has been killed in an accident that happened shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday. A car plowed through a guardrail at Humboldt Parkway and Woodlawn Ave. and plunged onto Rte. 33 below. The vehicle then burst into flames.

Buffalo Police tell News 4 that two cars were racing down Main Street before one car went the wrong way on Woodlawn Ave. and eventually crashed through the guardrail at Humboldt.  Emergency responders tried to rescue the driver but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other vehicle also crashed and that driver was questioned by police.

The 33 remained closed for nine hours in both directions between Best St. and the 198 as emergency crews cleaned the scene.

The names of the victim nor the other driver have not been released.
