ALLEGANY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say a man caught stealing from the Walmart in Allegany had drugs on him as well as the stolen goods when they arrested him and his alleged accomplice in the parking lot.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was called to the store after loss prevention officers saw the pair stealing items Thursday night. Deputies arrived at the scene and placed 27-year-old Anthony Vavrecan and 23-year-old Jessica Shoup, both of Hinsdale, under arrest out in the parking lot.
Both are charged with petit larceny. Authorities say Vavrecan had needles and a controlled substance in his possession, and he tried to hide evidence in his clothing. He was additionally charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
Vavrecan and Shoup were taken to the Cattaraugus County Jail on bail.
