News 4 honored with three Edward R. Murrow Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – News 4 has been honored with three 2014 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The RTNDA has recognized News 4 for ‘Continuing Coverage‘ of the crisis in Buffalo Public Schools, for ‘Investigative Reporting‘ into the 2012 house explosion in Wilson that killed 14 year-old Sarah Johnson, and in the ‘News Series‘ category for Dicey Dining, the series of reports that uncovered restaurant inspection information in Erie County that had been hidden from the public.

The on-air reports were accompanied by an online database that, for the first time, allowed viewers to check the inspection records of their favorite restaurants.

The winning regional entries now advance to the national competition.

The Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize the best electronic journalism produced by news organizations around the world.

The RTDNA says it received more than 4,000 entries during the 2014 awards season, “setting an all-time record for entries in what proved to be one of the most competitive Edward R. Murrow Awards seasons in RTDNA history.”
