KENNEDY, N.Y. (WIVB) – A southern tier man allegedly menaced a state trooper with a billy club who was trying to interview him regarding an incident involving his neighbors.

State Police were called to Kennedy on Sunday on reports of a man driving on Poland Center Road who was yelling at residents. Officers found William Swanson at his home and say when the 58-year-old answered the door, he had a billy club in his hand and menaced a state trooper.

Swanson was arrested and taken to the police barracks, where his BAC was reportedly .26 percent – more than three times the legal limit.

He has been charged with felony menacing a police officer, felony DWI, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
