BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – There’s been a lot of contention on the school board this year, but in less than two weeks, everything could change. There are 15 candidates running for just three open at large seats in the May 6th election.

Tuesday night people in Buffalo heard directly from the candidates battling for the open spots.

The district held a forum at Southside Elementary. Another public forum is set for Thursday night at the Frank Merriweather Library on Jefferson Avenue.

The candidates spoke about a number of issues including an administrative overhaul, and concerns about how the district operates. Organizers say this is a crucial election.

Erie County Legislator Patrick Burke said, “I look at this as the most important school board election in a very, very long time.  And I want to find out, some of these folks are going to affect the quality of our schools for a long time.  And that’s going to affect our kids.  It’s going to affect our city, our county.”
