DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A teenager wearing dark clothing was fatally struck by an SUV in the Town of Darien just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Dean Cullinan was walking his bicycle in the eastbound lane of Genesee Street when he was hit. Investigators say the 31-year-old driver didn’t see Cullinan because he was wearing dark clothing and because there was an oncoming car in the westbound lane.

The Corfu teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pembroke Superintendent Matt Calderon released the following statement regarding Cullinan’s death:

“Dean was a fun person, extremely likeable, and I remember his great performance in the high school play when he was a senior. Our focus now will be to support his family and friends through the grieving process.”

The investigation is continuing.
