Jacobs asks businesses to donate pens to Auto Bureau

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – It may not be a bundle of cash, but Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs says he has found a novel way to save a few thousand taxpayer dollars. He is asking local businesses to donate pens to the Auto Bureau.

Jacobs says when he took office the Erie County Auto Bureau was buying 10,000 pens a year because customers have a ‘tendency to walk out the door with them.’

Last year he asked locally owned businesses to donate pens to the Auto Bureau with their company logos on them. The Auto Bureau received some 13,000 pens, which it made available to its many customers. If the customer walks away with the pen, it’s just another way for local businesses to spread their message.

Jacobs says in a typical week about 250 pens are distributed among some 9,600 customers. The campaign has been a hit and the initial supply of 13,000 pens is running low. Jacobs says he’s now appealing for a new crop of donated pens.

If your company is interested in giving pens to the Erie County Auto Bureau you may call the Clerk’s office at (716) 858-6985 or email Thea.Tio@erie.gov. You may also choose to put your pens in a specific Auto Bureau location including the Rath Building, Urbandale Plaza, Eastern Hills Mall, Northtown Plaza, ECC South, or Evans Town Hall.
