BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sexual abuse victims can now turn to the Catholic Health System for more help. Wednesday, leaders will announce details for their new sexual assault nurse examiner program at Kenmore Mercy.
These nurses have undergone special training. They’ll be available on-call, 24-7 at all Catholic hospitals to help victims of abuse.
Catholic Health hopes to make an impact on sexual violence. They released statistics that one and five women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime, 63 percent of women don’t report assaults to police and 81 percent report significant short or long-term impacts.
April is sexual assault awareness month.
