BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A World War II submarine at the Naval and Military Park on Buffalo’s waterfront has had a piece of its history restored.

On Thursday, the battle flag for the USS Croaker was unveiled. This flag shows insignias representing the Japanese ships the Croaker sank during its fifth patrol in the war.

The flag and ship photos were donated by the family of former crew member Stewart Nichols. It will be on permanent display in the berthing compartment.

The submarine, which is credited with sinking seven enemy vessels, came to the Queen City in 1988 and has since become one of the big attractions at the Naval and Military Park.
