Event raises awareness about bicycle safety

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – May is bicycle month, and a group in Buffalo is trying to raise awareness about bike safety.

GO Bike Buffalo hosted an artists and cyclists event Friday evening on Allen Street. People of all ages took their two wheelers to the streets.

Organizers say the city is becoming more bike friendly.

Event coordinator Henry Raess said, “In recent years, the mayor has committed to adding at least 10 miles of bike lanes per year, we have a free bike rack parking system with the city, so businesses and commercial districts can request bike parking, and get bike racks in front of their businesses. We have educational programs in schools, teaching kids how to fix and maintain bikes.”

Artists on hand for the event made sculptures out of old bike tires and parts.
