Man may have suffered medical problem before fatal crash

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Amherst Police believe a 52-year-old, Robert Lechiara, may have suffered a medical problem before crashing into a tree Friday afternoon.

Authorities say Lechiara was not wearing a seat belt when he crashed his pickup truck on Woodcrest Drive around 4 p.m. Friday.   He was rushed to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Erie County Medical Examiner stated Lechiara died from a heart problem and not from injuries sustained in the crash. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
