Odor prompted brief evacuation at school

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – There was a brief alert at the William Kaegebein Elementary School on Grand Island, Friday morning.

Officials there evacuated the building for a short time because of a ventilation issue. Superintendent Teresa Lawrence said an HVAC part broke and created an odor, and the building was evacuated as a precaution.

According to Lawrence, “Given the timing of the evacuation, there was no disruption to academic programs.”
