Police recover stolen yellow submarine

GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – An investigation by Gowanda Police has led to the recovery of a resident’s stolen yellow submarine.

The recreational submarine is valued at more than $30,000 and was parked outside the resident’s home in the village. While the resident was away, police say Gerald Redford noticed a man checking out the sub.

Officers say Redford approached the man, claimed to be an agent for the resident, and sold it to the man for $300. The man, unknowing Redford’s alleged ploy, hired a tow company to remove the yellow submarine.

When the resident returned on April 29, he immediately contacted police.

Within three days, officers placed Redford under arrest for third degree grand larceny. Police say he admitted his role in the crime.

Authorities also were able to have the submarine returned to its rightful owner.

Redford is being held in the Cattaraugus County Jail on $3,000 bail.
