Williamsville’s Leggio joins Team USA for World Championship

Williamsville native David Leggio will suit up for Team USA later this month at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Belarus.

Leggio, a former Sabres goalie prospect, spent this year in the Washington Capitals organization playing for the AHL’s Hershey Bears. The 29-year old goaltender put up a 23-18-3 record with a 2.36 goal-against average this year in Hershey.

He joins current Sabres prospect Jake McCabe on Team USA. The roster, mostly made up of the best players who are not currently involved in the NHL playoffs, is now set. Team USA will open the tournament next week, taking on Belarus on May 9th.
