Motorcyclists ride for safety

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Local motorcyclists joined together for an annual ride to bring awareness to motorcycle safety.

The local chapter of ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) held its ride Saturday afternoon. May is motorcycle safety awareness month and there already have been at least three motorcycle fatalities this year in Western New York.

Warmer weather usually means more people are riding their motorcycles, and that can cause more accidents.

“It seems like the most dangerous time of the year to be out there on the road are the first few weeks of the warm weather, so to each of you out there I would ask you to keep your eyes peeled and the message to the drivers out there who may be watching on television, the message to the driver is, ‘You look twice and you save a life’,” said democratic State Assemblyman Sean Ryan. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
