Armed Forces Week begins in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Armed Forces Week began Sunday in Western New York with a ceremony at the Naval Park. This week is set aside each year to recognize the men and woman who serve or have served our country.

The theme for this year is “rise of the professionals”.

“We do this to honor the active, reserve, national guard, and all people in uniform that are active, retired, or honored as deceased. We’ve been doing this for 54 years,” said Lt. Col. Vincent J. Ventura, who served as master of ceremonies.

There are several events scheduled for the week, including a dinner on Saturday night.

A portion of those proceeds will go to the Western New York Veterans One-Stop Center which offers a comprehensive list of services to veterans including readjustment and financial counseling; employment, family and legal services and more.
