Art winner headed to U.S. Capitol

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Some art made by Western New York students was on display in Buffalo Sunday evening as part of a competition.  The grand prize was awarded to an oil painting by Aniya Brown, a student of City Honors High School.

Brown’s self portrait will be on display in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Her work will join winning pieces from each of the nation’s other 434 congressional districts in an exhibit.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the winner. “The arts are very, very important to the educational process, it involves parents, art teachers and students themselves who get direction and inspiration from parents and their teachers,” he said. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
