Community supports fire victims

DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A community came together Sunday to help seven people, including two volunteer firefighters that lost everything they had in an apartment fire.

People gathered for a chicken dinner to raise money for the group.

The fire happened in Darien two months ago.

The two firefighters who lived in the building helped get everyone out safely, then rushed to the fire hall to help get equipment to fight the blaze.

Members of the group say they were thankful for the support from the community. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
