NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say a drunk driver neglected to yell “fore” before driving onto the 18th fairway of a golf course in the Town of Newstead.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office reports Robert Van Pelt drove onto the course at Dande Farms Country Club at 9:30 in the morning on Sunday. Officers say he parked his car, got out, and started walking back towards Carney Road.

Deputies arrived and placed him under arrest. Authorities say the 36-year-old’s BAC was .28 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit.

Officers say Van Pelt has a prior DWI conviction from April 2011. He is facing charges of felony aggravated DWI, trespassing, criminal mischief and several vehicle and traffic charges.

No golfer was injured in the incident.
