Two WNY police officers placed on police memorial


BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Authorities in Albany honored 20 fallen officers on Tuesday, including two from Western New York.

The names of Buffalo Police Officer Patty Parete and State Trooper Ross Riley to the New York State Police Memorial. Officer Parete died last year from the injuries she suffered after she was shot on duty in 2006. Trooper Riley died in November after falling during a training exercise at Letchworth State Park.

The Associated Press reports 12 from New York City and one Peekskill officer have been added, who died from illnesses connected to the 9/11 attack. Authorities say the 13 died from cancers attributed to rescue and recovery work at the collapsed World Trade Center towers in Manhattan.
