Community to gather and remember 13-year-old

Ameer Al Shammari

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – People in the Buffalo community will soon gather to remember a 13-year-old boy, who was murdered. They are planning a memorial for Ameer Al Shammari on Saturday. Organizers have not released details yet.

Police say another 13-year-old boy named Jean Sanchez murdered Ameer, possibly over a cell phone. Someone found Ameer’s body in the old Tee to Green Golf Park off Amherst Street last Saturday.

Ameer and his family came to this country more than a year ago from Iraq.

Ameer is being remembered as a friendly, communicative child, whose academic achievements began soaring after winter break. School officials say the teen had been showing artistic talent while growing leaps and bounds in mastering math skills. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
