Two Buffalo men accused of having illegal cigarettes

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – Two Buffalo men stopped on I-90 Sunday afternoon in Oneida County are facing charges of possessing illegal cigarettes.

State Police say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Abdul Kamarudden, 46, for speeding in the Town of Westmoreland. Troopers say they could see a large amount of cigarette cartons inside the vehicle, and an inspection revealed they did not have the proper tax stamp.

Both Kamarudden and his passenger, Zaw Htike, 37, were arrested on charges of possession/transporting $30,000 in unstamped cigarettes and fifth degree criminal tax fraud. After being arraigned, both were taken to the Oneida County Jail on $15,000 bail.

Kamarudden was also ticketed for speeding.
