GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – The quick actions of an associate pastor on Friday saved a complex from more extensive damage from a gasoline fire.
The Grand Island Fire Department says the associate pastor was working on a salvage vehicle around noon at the former Island Pools complex on Grand Island Blvd, which is now owned by the Harbor Lights Fellowship Church, when gasoline accidentally ignited.
The associate pastor drove the vehicle outside the building to limit the damage to a parked camper trailer inside. He sustained superficial burns to his hands in the process but declined hospitalization.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the flames. Crews estimate the fire caused $10,000 damage to the contents of the complex, but there was no damage to the structure.
