SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Beginning Monday, a portion of I-86 will close for the next five months.
The State DOT says the long-term closure between Exits 21 and 23 on the Allegany Territory of the Seneca Nation in Cattaraugus County will begin May 12. Crews will reconstruct this portion of the highway.
Detours will be posted and temporary traffic signals have been installed on Rt. 417 to handle the increase in traffic.
Motorists are advised to expect delays.
The closure is part of a $21 million project to improve I-86 that began in March. The project will rehabilitate the road surface and some bridges, as well as reconstruct the on and off ramps at Exit 20 near the Seneca Allegany Casino.
