ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — The trial of a former hockey star, who’s accused of murdering his girlfriend at SUNY Brockport, is due to begin Monday in Rochester.

Clayton Whittemore is charged with fatally beating 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut in her dorm room on campus in September of 2012. Reports say Whittemore allegedly beat his then girlfriend with a curling iron until she died.

The trial has seen several delays as attorneys review psychiatric reports.

Whittemore claims he was emotionally disturbed at the time.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder.

Jury selection begins Monday in Rochester.
