Local soldier shot at Ft. Hood to undergo another surgery

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A local soldier who was injured in last month’s shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas is set to undergo another surgery next week.

But Major Patrick Miller says after that, he is expected to make a full recovery. The WNY native will be back in town next month for Allegany’s Old Home Week, where he will serve as grand marshal in this year’s parade.

Major Miller was shot in the gut when Spc. Ivan Lopez opened fire, killing 13 people and wounding 32 others. Lopez then took his own life.

But despite his injuries, Major Miller continued to pull his fellow soldiers to safety behind a door and call 911.
