BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Buffalo man is going to jail for breaking into his girlfriend’s house and repeatedly attacking her in a bizarre series of events.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, in June 2012, Jerome Ingram got into an argument with his girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, and was asked to leave her home. He pretended to leave, but really hid inside the home. The victim called a male friend and asked him to come over. When the man arrived, Ingram jumped from the room he had hidden in and attacked his girlfriend in a jealous rage. He fled when police were called.
As the police were outside searching for him, Ingram broke into the home through an apartment and grabbed a knife. He threatened to kill his girlfriend and her friend and stole their phones so they could not call police for help. He then appeared to flee.
Ingram’s girlfriend exited the home to flag down officers and Ingram attacked her once more, repeatedly kicking her. Police rushed to her aid and took Ingram into custody after a foot chase. Officers found him hiding under bushes.
Ingram was convicted of second degree burglary for the incident and at sentencing told the judge it was “just a misunderstanding” and that he is a good father.
But the judge felt Ingram, a second felony offender, needed to realize how his actions affect his family and loved ones, and sentenced him to seven years in state prison with five years of post-release supervision.
