Man allegedly repeatedly stabbed brother at campsite

MIDDLEBURY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police say while camping in a wooded area in Wyoming County, a man stabbed his brother several times during an argument.

On Sunday in an area off Bank Road in Middlebury, troopers say Richard Gross, 26, of Byron stabbed his brother, David Gross, 23, of LeRoy with a “hunting-type” knife, puncturing his lung and causing multiple other injuries.

Both men were taken in a private vehicle to Wyoming County Community Hospital, where Richard was taken into custody and David was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital.

David is currently in satisfactory condition at the hospital after undergoing surgery. His brother is charged with first degree assault and is being held in the Wyoming County Jail on $50,000 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
