New Niagara Falls tour boat company sets sail

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – For the first time in 129 years the Maid of the Mist has competition on the water under Niagara Falls.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises set sail Wednesday with a preview tour for the media. Public cruises begin May 15. The new tours will include sunrise cruises, cocktails at sunset and even late night fireworks tours.

Leaders with Hornblower are welcoming American visitors to the Canadian side and think the American spirit of competition will be good for business for everyone.

Hornblower President and CEO Terry MacRae said, “It’s going to be different. People will be able to choose and compare. That’s the great thing about America. There’s plenty of products and opportunities. It’s a huge market. I’d like to think our involvement here will make the market a lot bigger for everybody. That’s a good thing for the public and the vendors that are here.”

Hornblower won the rights to the Canadian docks in 2012.

The Maid of the Mist returned to the water, now from the American side of the Falls, May 10.
