Source: Buffalo Police call FBI in on high-profile case

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Sources tell News 4 the Buffalo Police Department has called in the FBI to monitor a high-profile investigation involving a popular bar near UB’s South Campus

William Sager, Jr. was found unconscious outside Mollys bar on Main Street Sunday morning. The airman, who is stationed at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, now in the ICU at ECMC.

News 4’s Ed Drantch has learned that a man connected to the bar is a person of interest in the case. The man has hired prominent defense attorney Joel Daniels to represent him.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda has launched an internal investigation into a Buffalo Police officer, who was also involved, News 4 has discovered. The officer was off-duty at the time of the incident and was working in a security capacity.

News 4 has spoken with the attorney representing Mollys, Jacob Piorkowski, who said, “We are complying with all aspects of police investigation.”
