Woman admits stealing wallets from shoppers

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Buffalo woman with a long criminal history now admits to following senior citizens through a Wegmans store and stealing their wallets, on three separate occasions.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita said 49-year-old Lavina Walker pleaded guilty to three incidents that happened at the Wegmans on Alberta Drive, in Amherst.

The DA’s office says Walker followed a 91-year-old woman through Wegmans in July, and stole her wallet when she was distracted. In September, she did the same thing with an 86-year-old shopper. In October, store security personnel spotted her trying to steal an 86-year-old woman’s purse, and she was apprehended by Amherst Police.

Walker pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and one county of petit larceny. Sedita says Walker has 27 prior misdemeanor convictions and eight prior felony convictions. If she is found to be a Persistent Felony Offender by the court, Walker faces a maximum of life imprisonment when sentenced in August.
